Researchers currently do not know enough to predict the dynamics of ice sheets. The SEACISM project will improve fidelity of ice-sheet models and the researchers’ ability to resolve important ice sheet features.

The story on how computational scientists used supercomputers to explore ice sheet dynamics, which was published in February 2011, was one of my earliest published stories. I wrote it back in 2010 when I interned for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. I was fortunate to spend time interviewing researchers and learning about the work done with the Jaguar supercomputer on major scientific issues around the world.
